Reflections

I chose to incorporate the "follow me" tab I found on national geographic to make it easier for readers to follow. This will enable them to add my blogs to their RSS feeds. I feel this is important because it will get others to read what I have to say, and make it so they don't have to go out of their way. I think it will enhance my website because it will be easier to read for others.

a. How do you think this video is relevant to Secondary Social Studies and English education?
This video discusses how technology is always changing the way we do things. This applies to education because the way we use technology and the technology we use in the classroom is defined by what we have available, and what students can relate to. At this point in time if you plop a typewriter in front of a student, they would be beyond confused simply because it is old news. We use computers for everything. A student would probably hand in a sub par piece of work because they had no spell check, grammar check, or quick way of looking something up. I feel it applies to history because we are now coming outside the textbook. Where a traditional project would have been to study from a book and make a poster or write a report, we have kids making power points based off web learnings.

b. What does the term ‘recognition’ refer to in the video and how could this concept be important in teaching and learning?
I'm honestly not sure about the term recognition in this video, but to reconize means you are recalling a prior knowledge. This is important because students must have the skill to do so to get by in school. Imagine a school where a teacher knew nothing of their subject. As they taught, they would be learning too. They would not, however, be able to answer questions because the subject was entirely new to them, or they didn't recognize the information. For students, it is vital they recognize the information on quizzes, tests, and exams. If they don't, they will fail the test.
